Independent Trekkers

Are you considering to go trekking without a guide? First of all, be aware that Ecuador does not have signposted hiking trails. Therefore, it is indispensable to have experience navigating on your own. Never rely blindly on your GPS – your batteries may die or signals don´t come through. Besides, you have to be prepared for sudden changes in the weather, like dense fog or river flooding, forcing you to adapt to conditions that can be extremely harsh.

If you still decide to set out on the trail on your own, we offer assistance in the logistics:  private transfers to and from the trailhead, gear rentals, itinerary and trail planning, food drops, point of contact in case of emergency.

For the major summit climbs you do need a guide any time, as under Ecuadorian law it is mandatory to contract a certified mountain guide for any peaks over 5000 m.
